TOP 10
Here is a list of my 10 favorite books from my Theology Studies since 2015
01
The Rule of St. Benedict
A short book on the Benedictine St. who established his rule in early church history as a precedent for monastic life.
02
Raymond Brown. An Introduction to the New Testament.
In short, all New Testament theology bends the knee to Raymond Brown. That's a seminary joke I've heard...lol. O;-) ("All bow down to Raymond Brown...LoL")
03
Systematic Theology by Fiorenza and Galvin
I don't even know how to summarize this textbook but it's about Systematic Theology and I love it.
04
Pneumatic Correctives. What is the Spirit Saying to the Church of the 21st Century? Tkacik and McGonigle, O.P.
This book is a modern interpretation of what the Church should be guided by the Holy Spirit in light of its teaching, sacraments, and history. It goes along with Ecclesiology and Worship, Sacraments, and Liturgy and the above Systematic Theology text.
05
The Apostle Paul by Marion Soards
A great introduction to the writings and teachings of St. Paul with indepth analysis.
06
The Collected Works of St. John of the Cross
Need I say more? Get it!
07
Bonaventure: The Classics of Western Spirituality
Three of his works. The Soul's Journey into God. The Tree of Life. The Life of St. Francis. Remarkable Franciscan readings.
08
On Loving God: St. Bernard of Clairvaux
It's actually an elongated homily about Love and God and human nature and people with in depth analysis. Pick it up and you'll follow after him into the abbey.
09
New Seeds of Contemplation : Thomas Merton
One of the most modern contemporary theologian saints of the 20th Century. He really makes you want to live in a shack.
10
To Save A Thousand Souls: Fr. Brett Brannen
This should be actually #1 but is not related to my course material so it's side reading as it is a book for discerning a vocation into the priesthood and illuminates the joys, fears, questions, ideas, and the whole paradigm of what the calling into seminary and the priesthood and to recieve Holy Orders is all about in ministry.
